Ista's Craft Complex, located at Ista Isle, houses the Harpers, Healers, Weavers, Smiths, and Technicians. The complex itself is a few kilometers from Ista Hold and the enclave of Ista Weyr. There are two PC crafts in the Hall -- Harper and Weaver.
Harpers!
The largest of the craft groups at Ista, its old structure formed the foundation for the later building of the Crafthall. The craft has a long tradition on the island, but it promotes new ideas as much as it tries to keep some things as they were. Progress has hit Pern hard, and as teachers and instructors the harpers have taken on new duties that lend themselves well to the various other crafts nearby. Apprentices are expected to gather a working knowledge of technology, now, and the historical texts that were discovered with AIVAS have revamped the harper's most vital role. Chiryuu is the current Master Harper at Ista.
Weavers!
AIVAS has had its impact on the weavers, too, with new materials and skills discovered. Machinery has especially -- and literally -- tightened up the weaves being produced, and while individual artistry is still sought after, the more standard products have become popular. Dragonriders, especially, plague the weavers for leathers that have to be tailored in their profession. Silma is the current Weaver Master at Ista.
